Dark blue and gold are colors traditionally associated with the Navy. Gold is emblematic of honor and excellence. The anchor denotes steadfastness and strength. White stands for integrity and the frozen North, location of the Yukon River. The wavy bar represents water and the Yukon River, namesake of the ship, while green reflects the open ocean upon which the USNS YUKON sails. The gold bars reflect the Yukon River's history and heritage as the principal transportation route during the Klondike Gold Rush. The black pellets highlight the tanker's mission of transporting fuel oil. The three gold bars and white peaks underscore the three ships named for the Yukon River.
